Tanah Lot Temple at Sunset
About
Tanah Lot is arguably the most visually iconic sight in all of Bali. The small sea temple is perched on an offshore rock formation that becomes an island at high tide, with waves crashing spectacularly around its base. For Balinese Hindus it is one of the most sacred directional temples, and ceremonies are held here throughout the year. At sunset, the silhouette of the temple against the blazing sky is unforgettable. The surrounding area has been well-developed for tourism — paths, viewpoints, warungs and souvenir stalls. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere around the temple itself remains genuinely spiritual.

💡 Insider Tip
Arrive at least 90 minutes before sunset. The best viewpoints fill up. Walk past the main platform towards the south cliffs for a less crowded but equally beautiful angle.
